CodeStep Privacy Policy
Effective date: 19 October 2026
This policy explains what information the CodeStep game for Android ("the game") uses, why, and the choices you have. The game is made by CaVe Games ("we", "us").
- We do not run any servers and we do not collect your personal data ourselves.
- You do not need to create an account to play.
- Your progress and settings are saved on your device.
- If you use Google Play Games, Google stores your leaderboard score and a backup of your progress.
- The game shows optional rewarded ads from Google AdMob, which may use your device's advertising ID.
1. Information stored on your device
The game saves the following on your device only. It is never sent to us:
- Game progress: levels completed, stars earned, your best number of moves per level, levels unlocked and hints revealed.
- Settings: sound and music volume, language, vibration and colourblind mode.
Uninstalling the game deletes this data from your device.
2. Google Play Games Services
The game uses Google Play Games Services for an online leaderboard and for cloud saving. When you open the game, it checks whether you are signed in to Google Play Games. Using Play Games is optional: you can play the whole game without it.
If you are signed in:
- Leaderboard: your total number of stars is submitted to the public "Total Stars" leaderboard, together with your Play Games profile (player name and avatar), which other players can see.
- Cloud save: a copy of your game progress (listed in section 1) is stored in your Google account, so you can restore it after reinstalling the game or on another device.
This data is stored and processed by Google, not by us. Google's handling of it is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. You can manage or delete your Play Games data, including the data for a single game, from the settings of your Google Play Games profile.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The game shows rewarded ads only when you choose to watch one, for example to reveal a hint or to unlock a level. Ads are provided by Google AdMob.
To show and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, AdMob may collect information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, device model and operating system, and how you interact with ads. This information is collected directly by Google, not by us. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the game asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice later from the game's settings. Anywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation, in your Android device settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your device).
4. What we do not do
- We do not ask for your name, email address, location, contacts, photos or any other personal information.
- We do not use our own analytics or tracking tools.
- We do not sell your data or share it with anyone, apart from the Google services described above.
5. Permissions
- Internet access: used for Google Play Games and ads. The game itself works offline.
- Vibration: used for haptic feedback, which you can turn off in the game's settings.
6. Security
Data sent to Google Play Games and Google AdMob is encrypted in transit by Google's services.
7. Children
The game is intended for players aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the game, please contact us.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. Because we do not hold any personal data ourselves, these requests are handled by Google for the services described above. You can also delete everything stored on your device by uninstalling the game. If you have any question, contact us and we will help.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
